Unique Adults-Only Glamping in Wiltshire
Welcome to Travellers Rest Glamping, a unique adults-only retreat nestled in the stunning landscape of Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). This historic royal hunting ground, once enjoyed by kings from the 11th to 17th centuries, is now a peaceful haven of rolling hills, grasslands, and ancient woodland straddling the Wiltshire and Dorset border. As part of an International Dark Sky Reserve, it’s also the perfect destination for stargazing.
At Travellers Rest Glamping, you can step back in time and stay in one of our authentic, original horse-drawn gypsy wagons and showman’s wagons—living history experiences surrounded by nature and our magnificent Percheron heavy horses, Romulus & Remus.
Unlike many glamping sites, our wagons are not replicas—they are carefully restored originals, each steeped in history and character. From the romance of a traditional bow-top gypsy wagon to the grandeur of a showman’s road rail wagon, every stay is an opportunity to experience the heritage of Britain’s travelling past.
You’ll be staying in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside, with miles of scenic walking trails where you can spot diverse wildlife and enjoy the beauty of the landscape. Each wagon comes with everything you need to cook outdoors on an open fire with traditional chitty irons (tripod). If you prefer dining out, a welcoming country pub is just a five-minute walk away.
Travellers Rest Glamping is not only for guests—it’s also for horses. You’re welcome to bring your own horse for just £10 per night, with turnout provided. Imagine exploring Cranborne Chase on horseback with friends, or booking a romantic carriage driving experience with Remus, our gentle Percheron heavy horse.
We’re proud to be one of the very few still using heavy horses to pull original showman’s wagons—keeping history alive at both our site and at country fairs across the UK.
